Kwara Youths to Protest Insecurity in Lafiagi Tomorrow, Say Police Gave Approval

Youths and members of the Take-It-Back Movement in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, are set to embark on a peaceful protest tomorrow, Wednesday, September 16, 2026, to draw attention to worsening insecurity in the area, including persistent kidnappings, banditry and continuous captivity of some victims.

The organisers said the Nigeria Police Force, Lafiagi Area Command, has acknowledged and endorsed their notification letter for the protest.

In a letter dated September 12, 2026, and addressed to the Area Commander, Nigeria Police Force, Lafiagi, the group — signed by its Coordinator, Comrade Saidu Musa Tsaragi formally notified the police of the planned demonstration and requested security cover to ensure it holds peacefully.

The letter, titled "Notification of Peaceful Protest and Request for Security Cover," reads in part that the youths of Tsaragi wish to formally notify the police of a peaceful protest aimed at drawing attention to persistent insecurity affecting their community, particularly kidnapping, killings and banditry, which have caused fear and hardship among the people.

The document indicates it was received by one WPC Aliyu Halimat at the Lafiagi Area Command on September 14, 2026, at 14:18hrs, with an inscription confirming that "the original copy's received."

Sharing a copy of the acknowledged letter on his page, Comrade Tsaragi said the police command's endorsement paves the way for the protest to proceed as planned.

"The Nigeria Police Area Commander in Lafiagi has acknowledged and endorsed our letter," he said.

"Tomorrow, we will occupy the Edu Local Government Area to peacefully demand our rights and call for urgent action on the release of our people," he added, stressing that the protest is targeted at insecurity and the continued captivity of victims in kidnappers' dens.

He said the protesters would continue to press for justice, security and freedom for the people of the area.

"Our people deserve justice, security, and freedom. We will continue to stand together and demand accountability," Tsaragi said.

The planned protest comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Kwara State, with residents of Edu Local Government Area particularly alarmed by a wave of kidnappings believed to be linked to bandits operating in the axis.
