Morocco Crowned AFCON Champions After Senegal Stripped of Title

Morocco has been declared the winner of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Board overturned Senegal's 1-0 victory in the final. The decision was made due to Senegal's players walking off the pitch in protest of a late penalty awarded to Morocco, which is considered a violation of Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON regulations.

The CAF Appeal Board ruled that Senegal had forfeited the match, and the result is now officially recorded as a 3-0 win for Morocco. This decision marks the first time in history that an AFCON final result has been overturned.

Senegal had won the match 1-0 in extra time, but the controversy began when Morocco was awarded a penalty in stoppage time. The Senegalese players, led by coach Pape Thiaw, left the field in protest, and the match was delayed for 15 minutes. When play resumed, Morocco's Brahim Diaz missed the penalty, and Senegal went on to score the winning goal.
