One Soldier Killed After Ambush Attempt on Patrol Team in Kwara

Suspected bandits on Wednesday launched an attack on soldiers at the Gada checkpoint along the Patigi–Gbugbu road in Kwara State.

The troops reportedly responded swiftly, repelling the attackers and preventing any casualty at the checkpoint. Eyewitnesses who spoke to NupekoTV Lafiagi confirmed that the situation was quickly brought under control by security operatives.

However, in a tragic aftermath, a reinforcement team, Lafiagi base, heading towards Gada was involved in an accident. The Hilux vehicle conveying the soldiers reportedly crashed, leading to the death of one soldier called Bature.

Sources said the accident occurred as suspected bandits attempted to ambush the approaching military vehicle.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities have not issued an official statement, while security presence in the area is expected to be strengthened.
