Tragedy on Lade–Gbangede Road: One Dead, Another Injured After Suspected Bandit Attack in Patigi LGA
A suspected bandit attack along the Lade–Gbangede route in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State has reportedly claimed the life of one man and left another seriously injured.
According to sources who spoke with NupekoTV, the incident occurred at about 5:00 p.m. on Friday when two men were returning to their village, Gbangede, after visiting Lade Market.
Sources said the victims were traveling back home when they were allegedly ambushed by a group of suspected bandits at a location between Lade and Gbangede.
The attackers reportedly assaulted the two men with machetes before opening fire on them.
One of the victims, identified as Jerry Usman, was said to have sustained severe injuries after being shot during the attack.
Community sources told NupekoTV that both victims were initially rushed to the General Hospital in Lafiagi for emergency treatment. However, they were reportedly informed that medical personnel were unavailable at the time.
The victims were subsequently taken to a private clinic in Lafiagi for urgent medical attention.
Sadly, Jerry Usman was later confirmed dead while receiving treatment, according to sources familiar with the incident.
His companion, who also sustained serious injuries during the attack, is currently receiving medical care and is said to be responding to treatment.
The incident has further heightened concerns over the security situation along rural roads connecting communities in Patigi Local Government Area, where residents have repeatedly expressed fears over attacks by armed criminals.
Community members are calling on security agencies to intensify patrols along vulnerable routes and take proactive measures to protect travelers and residents from recurring attacks.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from security authorities regarding the incident.
