Petrol Price Hits N1,270 as NNPCL Adjusts Pump Price in Abuja

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has increased the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, at its retail outlets in Abuja and neighbouring areas.

A market survey conducted on Tuesday showed that NNPCL stations were dispensing petrol at N1,270 per litre, representing a N20 increase from the previous price of N1,250 per litre.

The latest adjustment has increased the cost of petrol for motorists and other consumers across the Federal Capital Territory.

The price increase comes as the Dangote Refinery expands its free petrol delivery programme to more locations across the country, with Abuja included among the destinations covered by the initiative.

Under the programme, petrol is supplied at N1,185 per litre, which is lower than the current NNPCL pump price.

Meanwhile, other major fuel retailers in Abuja have also adjusted their prices in recent weeks.

MRS filling stations recently increased their pump price by N20, bringing it to N1,230 per litre.

Following the latest adjustment, NNPCL's petrol is now more expensive than the product sold at several filling stations across Abuja and its environs.

MRS, Geregu, Ranoil, Emedab and Mobil stations were among the outlets selling petrol below the new NNPCL price.

However, some independent filling stations continued to sell above NNPCL's latest rate. Empire and AA Rano, for example, were dispensing petrol at prices ranging from N1,275 to N1,299 per litre.

The varying pump prices mean motorists in Abuja and surrounding areas are currently paying between N1,230 and N1,299 for a litre of petrol, depending on the filling station they patronise.
