Aliagan Re-elected NGIJ President, ASKOMP Secretary Oyelola Emerges VP
Mallam Abdulrahman Aliagan has been re-elected President of the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists for a second term, while Kwara-based journalist Oyelola Oyewale emerged Vice-President, Information and Administration.
Aliagan, Group Managing Editor of Time Nigeria Magazine, polled 24 votes to defeat Bolaji Israel, who scored 23 votes in the keenly contested election held virtually on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
Oyelola, who also serves as the Secretary of the Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners, was among the journalists elected into the guild’s new executive council.
The Chairman of the 2026 NGIJ Electoral Committee, Lateef Owodunni, announced the results in Lagos, saying 47 eligible voters were accredited for the election.
Other elected officers include Comrade James Ezema as Vice-President, Investigation; Rowland Shuwa, General Secretary; and Kehinde Adeleye, Public Relations Officer.
Aliagan’s re-election marks his continuation as president of the investigative journalists’ body, while Oyewale’s emergence adds a notable representation from Kwara’s online media community to the guild’s leadership.
