Kwara fire service Recovers corpse from well in ilorin

The body of 52-year-old man have been recovered by Fire Service of Kwara state , identified as Alaba Ayeni, from a domestic well in Ilorin, the state capital.

The incident occurred beside Lamp Bearers Islamic School, off Asa-Dam Road, Ilorin, on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. According to the Fire Service, the distress call was received at about 8:42am after some children in the area discovered the man inside the well and raised an alarm.

Fire fighters were subsequently deployed to the scene, where they carried out a rescue operation and recovered Ayeni’s body from the well. The recovered body was later handed over to DPO Bolaji of Budo-Nuhu Police Station for further investigation and necessary action.

The situation surrounding how Ayeni ended up inside the domestic well were not immediately disclosed by the Fire Service or anyone. The incident has, however, drawn attention to the dangers posed by uncovered or poorly secured wells, particularly in residential communities where children and other residents move around freely.

The Chief Fire Officer of the Kwara State Fire Service, CFS Alabi Muhammed, urged residents to ensure that domestic wells and other open water sources are properly covered and secured. He also advised parents, community leaders and other residents to pay close attention to children and prevent them from playing or moving unattended around wells, drainage channels and other potentially dangerous areas.
