BREAKING: INEC Lists Saliu Mustapha, Baba Kolo Jiya as PDP Senatorial Candidates in Kwara

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reportedly listed Senator Saliu Mustapha and Dr. Baba Kolo Jiya as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidates for Kwara Central and Kwara North, respectively, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Both politicians reportedly defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP and secured the party’s tickets through a substitution process. They are also associated with the Rainbow Coalition linked to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

In Kwara Central, Mustapha, the incumbent senator representing the district, is expected to contest against Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who is identified as the APC’s senatorial candidate for the district.

In Kwara North, Dr. Baba Kolo Jiya is set to face Mahmud Umar Muhammad, PhD, the former chairman of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), who is the APC’s senatorial candidate for the district.

The reported development signals a potential contest between candidates from the two major political parties across the two senatorial districts as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
