Bandits Kill Kwara Security Commander While Defending Community, Kidnap Others 

Suspected bandits have killed Agbeniga Taye, a commander of a local security outfit, during an attack on communities in the Idofin-Odo Ashe/Idofin-Ayekale axis of Oke Ero Local Government Area, Kwara State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday evening when the security commander was said to have engaged the attackers while attempting to protect residents.

A local source told NupekoTV that the attackers also abducted two people during the incident.

A 12-second video obtained by NupekoTV showed what appeared to be Taye’s body being carried by two men to his family. A young girl, identified as his daughter, was heard crying and repeatedly saying, “Daddy mi o,” meaning “My daddy” in Yoruba.

The latest attack has heightened concerns over the security situation in parts of Kwara South, where residents have continued to face threats of kidnapping and other attacks.

The incident also comes days after the death of Oba Moses Oyinloye Iwedunmoye I, the Onigbesi of Igbesi Land in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara South, who died days after regaining his freedom from kidnappers.

The monarch was abducted on August 22, 2026, and released five days later. His death was announced on September 12 by the National President of Omo Ibile Igbomina, Comrade Bisi Fakayode.

The recurring security incidents have continued to cause concern among residents and communities in Kwara, with renewed calls for improved security measures to protect lives and property in affected communities.
