FG Approves ₦1.5trn for Major Niger Lambata–Bida–Mokwa–Makera–Kontagora Highway Reconstruction
The Federal Government has approved ₦1.5 trillion for the reconstruction and dualisation of the Lambata–Bida–Mokwa–Makera–Kontagora Federal Highway in Niger State.
The project is expected to cover the major corridor linking Lambata, Bida, Mokwa, Makera and Kontagora, with the upgrade aimed at improving transportation and strengthening connectivity across communities along the route.
The Niger State Government said the official groundbreaking ceremony for the project will take place in Bida on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 12 noon.
The development is expected to bring relief to motorists and other road users who depend on the highway for daily movement. The upgraded road could also improve travel time and make transportation along the corridor more efficient.
The highway is particularly important to farmers and traders who use the route to transport agricultural produce and other goods to different markets. Its reconstruction is expected to facilitate smoother movement of goods and potentially reduce some of the challenges associated with transportation.
The project is also expected to contribute to economic activities in communities along the corridor by improving access to commercial centres and creating opportunities linked to construction and increased movement.
With the planned dualisation, the Lambata–Bida–Mokwa–Makera–Kontagora corridor could become a more efficient transportation link between Niger State and other parts of the country.
The groundbreaking ceremony in Bida is expected to formally signal the commencement of the project, with stakeholders and road users looking forward to its successful implementation and completion.
