LEYTA Blasts Kwara Govt Over ₦10m Flood Relief, ₦180m Centenary Donation

The Lafiagi Emirate Youth Transparent Association (LEYTA) has called on the Kwara State Government under Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to review its flood relief intervention for affected communities in Lafiagi Emirate, Edu Local Government Area, Kwara State, following reported losses to farms, homes and livelihoods.

The organisation raised the concern after the government reportedly allocated ₦10 million in relief assistance to nine flood-affected communities, while Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq announced a ₦180 million donation at the Ansarul Islam centenary celebration, alongside scholarship support for university students.

In a statement dated October 12, 2026, and signed by its Media Team, LEYTA said the relief package was inadequate compared with the scale of the damage suffered by residents.

According to the association, affected farmers and households recorded substantial losses, with individual losses estimated at between ₦500,000 and ₦4 million.

LEYTA acknowledged the importance of supporting religious institutions and education but argued that communities facing the immediate effects of flooding also required substantial government attention and assistance.

The association questioned the apparent difference between the reported flood relief allocation and the centenary donation, urging the state government to reassess the needs of affected residents and provide assistance proportionate to their losses.

The group also expressed concern over the reactions of some local media aides to Kwara State politicians and youths who praised the centenary donation on social media, saying more attention should be given to the challenges confronting their communities.

It urged indigenous commentators and young people to use their platforms to advocate for community development, accountability and improved support for flood victims, regardless of political affiliations.

LEYTA outlined three major demands: an urgent review of flood relief, transparency in the allocation and distribution of disaster management funds, and increased advocacy by local youths for the interests of Lafiagi Emirate.

The association called for a comprehensive financial and agricultural support package to help affected households recover their livelihoods and rebuild their lives.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to speaking out on issues affecting the emirate, stressing the need for equitable treatment and a responsive approach to disaster management.
