Eid Controversy: Sheikh Ayuba Musa Lukuwa Declares Thursday as Eid, Faults Those Observing Fast

A cleric, Sheikh Ayuba Musa Lukuwa, has stirred reactions after leading Eid prayer in Sokoto State on Thursday, declaring the day as Eid and criticizing those who continued fasting.

Speaking after the prayer, the cleric stated that anyone who observed fasting on Thursday did not do so for the sake of Allah, insisting that the day was already Eid.

According to him, “Anyone who fasted today, Thursday, did not fast for the sake of Allah. They fasted for someone else, because today, Thursday, is Eid.”

The development comes amid differing announcements regarding the official date for Eid celebrations, leading to confusion in some communities.

Muslim authorities are expected to provide further clarification to ensure unity in the observance of the festival.
