World football’s governing body, FIFA, has confirmed that Nigerian icon Austin Jay-Jay Okocha holds the record for the most successful dribbles completed in a single FIFA World Cup match.


Okocha achieved the remarkable feat during Nigeria’s clash against Italy at the 1994 FIFA World Cup, where he completed an outstanding 15 successful dribbles— a performance that continues to define his legacy as one of the most technically gifted players in football history.


The record further cements Okocha’s reputation for flair, creativity, and close ball control, qualities that made him a standout figure for the Super Eagles and a global fan favourite during his playing career.


Trailing behind Okocha in the all-time rankings are some of football’s greatest names, including Jairzinho (13 vs Uruguay, 1970), Paul Gascoigne (13 vs Cameroon, 1990), and Eusebio (12 vs Hungary, 1966).


Others on the elite list include Reinhard Libuda, Johan Cruyff, Sandro Mazzola, Diego Maradona, and Jamal Musiala, each of whom recorded 12 successful dribbles in their respective World Cup matches.
