Akpabio Vows to Expose Sponsors of Terrorism, Regardless of Status

The President of the Senate has issued a strong warning to individuals sponsoring terrorism, kidnapping, and other violent crimes across Nigeria, declaring that they will be exposed and held accountable regardless of their influence or position in society.

Speaking during an inter-denominational church service in Abuja to mark the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, the Senate President acknowledged the growing security challenges facing the nation but urged Nigerians not to lose hope.

He emphasised that unity, faith, and collective national resolve remain critical in confronting insecurity, including terrorism, banditry, and abductions that continue to threaten lives and livelihoods.

Reflecting on his time as governor, he recalled introducing structured prayer initiatives to combat rising insecurity, noting that spiritual efforts remain relevant alongside government actions in addressing the crisis.

He stressed that those responsible for orchestrating violence—whether within political circles or outside—will ultimately be identified, insisting that peace will remain out of reach for perpetrators until justice is served.

Describing insecurity as a major national concern, he highlighted the ongoing attacks on communities, farmers, and travellers, which have intensified fear across the country. Despite this, he expressed confidence in Nigeria’s resilience, citing its history of overcoming significant challenges.

He also made an emotional appeal regarding victims of kidnapping, noting the deep pain experienced by families left in uncertainty about the fate of their loved ones.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, he assured Nigerians that efforts are being intensified to restore security and secure the safe return of abducted citizens.

Also speaking at the event, a top government official reiterated that security agencies are scaling up operations against criminal elements while working to improve safety nationwide.

The service formed part of activities marking Nigeria’s 27th Democracy Day anniversary, with officials emphasising reflection on democratic progress alongside efforts to address ongoing national challenges.
