Kwara North PDP Senatorial Candidate Raises Alarm Over Rising Insecurity Across District

Kwara North PDP Senatorial Candidate, Engr. Rotimi Iliasu, has expressed concern over the increasing wave of kidnappings, armed attacks, and other violent crimes affecting communities across the senatorial district, calling for urgent action from government and security agencies.

In a statement made available to journalists, Iliasu described the security situation in communities such as Lafiagi, Yashikira, Patigi, Woro, and other parts of Kwara North as deeply troubling, warning that the continued attacks pose a serious threat to lives, livelihoods, and economic activities in the region.

According to him, the recurring incidents of abduction, attacks on rural communities, and assaults on travelers have created fear among residents and disrupted normal social and economic activities.

“The persistent kidnappings in Lafiagi and Woro, the midnight attacks in Yashikira, and the recurring assaults on Patigi and neighboring communities are heartbreaking and unacceptable. No society can thrive under such conditions,” he stated.

Iliasu noted that the security challenges have particularly affected agriculture, which remains the major source of livelihood for many residents of the district.

He said many farmers now struggle to access their farmlands due to fears of abduction and attacks, while fishing and livestock activities in several communities have also been adversely affected.

According to the PDP chieftain, the insecurity has contributed to reduced commercial activities in local markets and rising food prices due to disruptions in farming, transportation, and rural economic activities.

He further expressed sympathy for families who have lost loved ones in violent attacks and those whose relatives remain in captivity.

“My heart goes out to every family currently enduring the pain of uncertainty and loss. I stand in solidarity with every mother praying for the safe return of her child, every father grieving a loved one, and every family whose peace has been shattered by these senseless acts of violence,” he said.

The senatorial candidate called on the Federal Government, Kwara State Government, and relevant security agencies to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity across vulnerable communities in the district.

He advocated the deployment of additional security personnel to identified flashpoints, improved intelligence gathering, enhanced surveillance of forest corridors and riverine routes, as well as stronger collaboration among security agencies.

Iliasu also urged traditional rulers, community leaders, vigilante groups, youth associations, and other stakeholders to continue supporting security efforts through the provision of credible information that could help prevent attacks and aid investigations.

While emphasizing the need for immediate security interventions, he maintained that long-term peace and stability would also require greater investments in youth empowerment, economic opportunities, and rural development.

He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security, and development across Kwara North.

The statement comes amid growing concerns over a series of security incidents reported in parts of Edu, Patigi, Kaiama, and other communities within the senatorial district in recent months.
