Security Alert as Intelligence Report Warns of Possible Terrorist Movement into Kwara Communities.
Fresh security concerns have emerged in parts of Kwara State following intelligence reports indicating that suspected terrorists fleeing neighbouring Kogi State may be relocating to communities in Kwara state after the reported killing of their commander, Kachalla Ibrahim Battijo.
According to a report by SaharaReporters, security sources disclosed that members of Battijo's gang have begun retreating into parts of Kwara State following the neutralisation of their leader during security operations in Kogi State.
The sources alleged that the armed group is moving into strategic locations within Ifelodun, Isin, and Ekiti Local Government Areas of Kwara State, raising fears of possible fresh attacks, kidnappings, and retaliatory assaults.
One of the security sources quoted by SaharaReporters warned that intelligence reports suggest the fleeing terrorists may be planning revenge attacks following the death of their commander.
The source reportedly urged security agencies and local vigilante groups to remain vigilant and intensify surveillance across vulnerable communities to prevent the criminals from establishing new operational bases within the state.
According to the report, Kachalla Ibrahim Battijo was regarded as one of the most feared terrorist leaders operating across parts of Kogi and Kwara states and was allegedly linked to numerous kidnappings and violent attacks in several communities across Kwara South.
The report further claimed that although Battijo was neutralised in Kogi State, he maintained an extensive operational network in communities including Babanla, Oke-Ode, Oreke, Sebe, Omugo, and other parts of Kwara South.
The latest intelligence has reportedly heightened anxiety among residents who have experienced repeated attacks by armed groups in recent years.
Security sources, according to SaharaReporters, advised security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering, increase patrols, and collaborate closely with local vigilante groups to prevent any potential attacks.
They also warned that any delay in responding to the emerging threat could expose vulnerable communities to renewed incidents of kidnapping, killings, and other violent crimes.
The development comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in Kwara State, following the recent reported death of the traditional ruler of Olayinka community in Ifelodun Local Government Area, Oba Salman Olatunji Aweda, who was said to have died in captivity after being abducted by suspected kidnappers.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Kwara State Police Command or other security agencies confirming the reported movement of the suspected terrorists into Kwara South.
