How Long Must Lata Nna Suffer? Fresh Attack Renews Security Concerns in Patigi LGA, Kwara State
Residents of Lata Nna community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State have once again been thrown into fear following a fresh attack by suspected bandits, further highlighting the persistent security challenges confronting the area.
The latest incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday when armed men attacked a resident of the community, assaulting him and dispossessing him of cash before fleeing the scene.
According to information gathered by NupekoTV directly from the victim, four assailants carried out the attack. Two of the attackers were reportedly armed with guns while the other two wielded cutlasses.
Sources said the victim was intercepted by the attackers at about 8:00 a.m. and subjected to severe beating during the encounter. The assailants allegedly collected cash from him and attempted to take him away from the scene.
However, after reportedly conferring among themselves, the attackers abandoned the abduction attempt and fled, leaving the victim behind with injuries sustained from the assault.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns among residents of Lata Nna, a community that has suffered repeated attacks in recent months.
Only recently, NupekoTV published an exclusive report detailing the growing insecurity in the community, where residents lamented that they now live under constant fear as attacks continue to occur with alarming frequency.
Community members who spoke with NupekoTV described the latest incident as another painful reminder of the dangers confronting residents on a daily basis. They expressed fears that without urgent intervention, more lives and livelihoods could be at risk.
Many residents say movement within and around the community has become increasingly difficult as people now fear becoming targets of attacks.
They are calling on the Kwara State Government, security agencies and other relevant authorities to urgently strengthen security presence in the area and take proactive measures to protect lives and property.
Efforts by NupekoTV to obtain an official reaction from the Chairman of Patigi Local Government Area, Hon. Ahmed Rufai Ibrahim, proved unsuccessful. Calls placed to the chairman were not returned as of the time of filing this report.
Similarly, the Chairman's Chief Press Secretary neither answered nor returned calls seeking comments on the latest attack.
As anxiety continues to mount in Lata Nna, residents say they are hoping for swift action from authorities before another attack occurs in the troubled community, which many now describe as being under continuous threat from armed criminal elements.
