Outrage as Kidnappers Reject N155m Ransom, 176 Kwara Victims Remain in Captivity

Families of 176 abducted residents in Kwara State have been thrown into renewed despair after kidnappers reportedly rejected over N155 million raised to secure their release, nearly six months after the mass abduction.

The affected communities said all hopes of freeing their loved ones through negotiation have dimmed, accusing authorities of failing to end the prolonged ordeal. They warned that the lives of the victims are now in greater danger following fresh threats allegedly issued by the abductors.

In an emotional video, community leaders disclosed that residents made enormous sacrifices—selling valuables, emptying their savings, and organising community-wide contributions—to meet the ransom demand, only for the effort to collapse when the money was reportedly rejected.

Speaking on behalf of the families, Abdul Ibrahim said the situation has worsened, with kidnappers allegedly threatening to kill some captives and force female victims into marriage.

“We raised more than N155 million believing it would bring our people home, but it was rejected. The suffering continues,” he said.

He called on the Federal Government, Kwara State Government, and security agencies to urgently intervene, stressing that only decisive action can save the victims.

Also, the Dan Sardaukin Kaiama, Suleiman Bukata, urged security agencies to intensify rescue operations, citing recent successful rescue efforts in Oyo State as proof that the victims can be freed.

The victims were abducted on February 3, 2026, when armed attackers stormed Woro and nearby Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, killing several residents and taking many others hostage in what has been described as one of the deadliest attacks in the area.
