'Stop Chasing 2027 Agenda While Kwara North Bleeds,' Sanchitagi Qasim Challenges Region’s Political Actors
A youth and community development advocate, Sanchitagi Qasim, has criticised what he describes as the misplaced priorities of some self-acclaimed advocates of the Kwara North political agenda, accusing them of remaining silent on the region's worsening security and development challenges while concentrating almost exclusively on the politics of 2027.
In a strongly worded statement on his Facebook page, Qasim argued that communities across Kwara North continue to grapple with insecurity, neglect and unfulfilled government promises, yet many political voices claiming to represent the interests of the region have failed to speak out on issues that directly affect the lives of the people.
He questioned the reported location of the newly approved Nigerian Army Division in Kwara State, alleging that the facility has been taken outside Kwara North despite the region bearing the brunt of banditry and violent attacks. According to him, communities under siege are left to depend largely on poorly equipped local hunters and vigilante groups for protection.
The advocate also lamented the inactivity of the Yikpata NYSC Orientation Camp, noting that the once-functional camp no longer receives corps members. He further expressed concern over victims of the Woro kidnapping incident who, he said, remain in captivity, insisting that their plight should remain a priority for political leaders and public office holders.
Qasim further alleged that promises of compensation made to victims of banditry have not translated into meaningful relief, despite public claims that the commitments had been fulfilled. He also criticised what he described as the absence of significant benefits for Kwara North in the state's 2026 budget.
He did not spare the political establishment, describing the continued suspension of the lawmaker representing Edu Federal Constituency as "illegal and senseless," and warning that the people of the region deserve effective representation at a time of growing security and economic challenges.
According to him, genuine advocacy for Kwara North must be rooted in the pursuit of justice, security, infrastructure and equitable development rather than being reduced to debates over zoning arrangements and governorship tickets.
"If your agenda is to keep quiet about these realities while making loud noise about ticket and zoning alone, you will have more enemies to fight at home than outside come 2027," he warned.
Qasim called on political leaders, pressure groups and stakeholders to redirect public conversations toward addressing the immediate needs of the people, insisting that the future of Kwara North will be determined not only by who occupies political office but by who stands up for the region when it matters most.
