“We Want Sunday Igboho, Iru Ekun In Kwara” Chief Imam Raises Alarm Over 18 Residents Abducted For Over Three Months

The Chief Imam of Ikerin-Olupin in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State has called for stronger security interventions in the state, saying more than 18 residents of his hometown have remained in captivity for over three months.

The cleric made the statement while reacting to criticisms against the Iru Ekun Security Network in Kwara South, insisting that communities affected by insecurity need urgent support to protect lives and ensure the release of abducted persons.

“We want Sunday Igboho in Kwara State, we want Iru Ekun in Kwara State. Over 18 residents were abducted in my hometown, and they have spent over three months in captivity without being released,” he said.

The Chief Imam’s comment was in response to Sheikh Labeeb and others who had kicked against the involvement of Iru Ekun in Kwara South, amid growing discussions over community-based security initiatives in the state.

He argued that the increasing cases of kidnapping and attacks across communities require collective efforts, adding that the safety of residents should remain the priority.

The Iru Ekun Security Network, linked to Yoruba activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has generated mixed reactions in Kwara South, with supporters describing it as a needed intervention against insecurity while critics have raised concerns over its activities.

Kwara State has in recent months witnessed renewed security concerns, with residents repeatedly calling on government and security agencies to intensify efforts to tackle kidnapping and banditry.

The Chief Imam urged stakeholders to focus on protecting communities and ensuring that those held in captivity are safely rescued.
