'₦200,000 Donation Won't Free Our Kidnapped Relative' Lata Nna Youth Blasts Patigi LG Chairman Over 'Chicken Change'

A youth from Lata Nna Community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State has criticised Patigi Local Government Chairman, Ahmed Adam Rufai, over what he described as an inadequate response to the worsening security crisis in the community following the recent kidnappings of a resident.

The criticism comes as the abducted victim remains in captivity with his family reportedly struggling to meet a ₦100 million ransom demand by his kidnappers, who have allegedly threatened to kpai him if the money is not paid.

In a Facebook post that has since attracted attention, the youth, identified as Ishiaku Alhaji Aliyu, acknowledged the chairman's donation but questioned whether the gesture addressed the real challenges confronting the community.

"First, I want to appreciate our Council Chairman for his ₦200,000 donation to the community. Every bit of support matters. However, we must ask the hard questions. Who is ultimately responsible for the security of lives and property in our Local Government? Is the Chairman not the Chief Security Officer?

"While some ask us to celebrate this donation, we must ask: does ₦200,000 bring back our brother who is currently in captivity due to a system failure? We cannot substitute basic governance with token gestures and we must never reduce painful human tragedies to political talking points. Thank you," he wrote.

Speaking further with NupekoTV, Aliyu alleged that the council chairman had not visited Lata Nna since bandit attacks began in the area until Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

According to him, the chairman donated ₦200,000, 15 bags of 10kg rice and 15 bags of 10kg beans during the visit, handing the items to the village head.

"Since Lata started facing bandit attacks, he never visited the community until now. He came with ₦200,000, 15 pieces of 10kg rice and 15 pieces of 10kg beans. The money was handed to the village head as if to say, 'take this and don't be angry with me'," Aliyu told NupekoTV.

The development has further heightened concerns among residents, many of whom insist that improved security and the safe return of the kidnapped victim should remain the government's immediate priority rather than relief donations.
