6th Annual Nupe Cultural Day: ADUSTECH Nupe Students Celebrate Heritage, Identity and Tradition

The National Association of Nupe Students (NANUS), Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil Chapter, under the leadership of Comrade Ahmad Bashir Ismaeel Muregi, held its 6th Annual Nupe Cultural Day on August 9, 2026.

The annual celebration brought together Nupe students to showcase and celebrate their rich cultural heritage, language, traditions and values. Beyond the festivities, the programme served as a reminder of the importance of preserving cultural identity, particularly among young people living and studying far away from their ancestral homeland.

For years, Nupe students at ADUSTECH have remained committed to keeping their culture alive through cultural programmes, educational activities and other initiatives. Their consistency has helped maintain the visibility of Nupe culture on campus while contributing to the broader promotion of cultural and linguistic diversity within the university community.

The association's commitment to cultural representation has also been reflected in the participation of its members in student leadership. One notable example is Comrade Mohammed Salihu, who served as the Students' Union Government (SUG) Minister of Languages and Culture. In that role, he contributed to efforts aimed at promoting languages, cultural awareness and inclusion within the university community.

The 6th Annual Nupe Cultural Day provided another opportunity for the students to reconnect with their roots, celebrate their identity and share the richness of Nupe culture with the wider university community.

From traditional attire and cultural displays to the celebration of language, customs and shared heritage, the event reflected the determination of Nupe students at ADUSTECH to preserve their identity and pass their cultural values on to future generations.

The documentary captures highlights from the 6th Annual Nupe Cultural Day and tells the story of Nupe students at ADUSTECH, their cultural identity, leadership and continued efforts to preserve and promote their heritage—even thousands of kilometres away from Nupe land and abroad.
