Kwara Police Boss Warns Officers Against Unlawful Phone Searches of NYSC Members.

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, has directed police officers in the state to desist from indiscriminately searching the mobile phones of National Youth Service Corps members under the guise of checking for internet fraud.

Adekimi issued the warning during a working visit to corps members participating in the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course in Kwara State, assuring them that the police and other security agencies would prioritise their safety throughout their service year.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ilorin. The statement said the commissioner was received at the NYSC Orientation Camp by the state coordinator, Musa Kafarda, who commended him for his commitment to the security and welfare of corps members.

Addressing the corps members, Adekimi urged them to embrace their host communities and contribute positively to their development. He also advised them to use social media responsibly and avoid digital activities capable of threatening peace and public order.

The commissioner stressed that corps members deserved dignity and respect when dealing with police officers. He said, “No police officer should indiscriminately search through the mobile phones of corps members on the road under the guise of checking whether they are involved in internet fraud.”

He urged corps members who experience inappropriate conduct by police personnel or encounter security challenges to report through the command’s designated channels or visit the nearest police formation.

Adekimi further encouraged the corps members to regard the police as partners throughout their service year and to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in protecting them and their host communities.

He also commended the NYSC Camp Commandant and other security personnel for maintaining a safe and conducive environment, wishing the corps members a successful orientation exercise and a rewarding service year across Kwara State.
