The Ebonyi State Police Command has deployed security personnel across the state ahead of the Local Government elections scheduled to hold in all 13 Local Government Areas on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
The deployment covers polling units and strategic locations as part of measures to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the election. The Command said it is also working with other security agencies to provide adequate protection for voters and electoral personnel.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Hope Okafor, movement of vehicles and persons will be restricted across the state on election day from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The restriction, however, exempts EBSIEC officials, accredited journalists and election observers, emergency medical personnel, authorised security officers and other essential service providers. Those exempted are required to present valid identification and relevant accreditation at security checkpoints.
The Commissioner of Police warned politicians, party supporters and other stakeholders against inflammatory statements or actions capable of disrupting the electoral process. She also directed that anyone found attempting to breach public peace or violate the law would be arrested and prosecuted.
Okafor urged residents to remain peaceful, obey lawful instructions from security personnel and avoid actions capable of causing disorder. She assured the people of Ebonyi that security agencies would remain fully deployed before, during and after the election to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free exercise.
