More than 500 residents of Dekara and neighbouring communities in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State have reportedly been abducted by suspected bandits in a disturbing incident that has raised fresh concerns over the safety of civilians in the area.

According to footage obtained by NupekoTv, the victims were allegedly taken captive shortly after Friday prayers at a mosque. The abductees are said to include men, women and children.

Footage circulating from the incident appears to show a large group of people being held in an open area. Some of the victims can reportedly be seen lying on the ground in the rain, while gunshots are heard in the background.

The disturbing video has triggered concern over the condition of those being held and renewed calls for urgent action to secure vulnerable communities in the area.

However, the footage and reported casualty figures could not be independently verified at the time of publication.

Niger State Authorities have also yet to provide a detailed official account confirming the number of people abducted or their current whereabouts.

The reported incident adds to growing security concerns in parts of Niger State, where communities continue to face threats from armed groups and kidnappers.

Families and residents are now awaiting further information from security agencies and government authorities regarding efforts to locate and secure the reported victims.
