Exclusive: Abandoned Veterinary Unit in Lafiagi: What Happened to the Facility Once Used to Treat Animals?
The abandoned veterinary unit of the Ministry of Education and Natural Resources in Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, has drawn attention following concerns over the continued neglect of the facility.
Speaking on the condition of the facility, Hon. Aliyu Mohammed Wayata said the veterinary unit is a property of the State Government and was previously used for the treatment and care of animals within the community.
According to him, animals were formerly taken to the facility to receive treatment, while it also served as an office for veterinary officers. He added that animals requiring specialised treatment were sometimes kept at the facility under the care of the veterinary personnel.
Wayata said rehabilitating the abandoned facility would restore its usefulness to the community, particularly by providing a designated centre where animals could receive proper veterinary care and treatment.
He noted that although the facility belongs to the State Government, the Local Government could also play a role by supporting efforts to renovate and restore it for public use.
He also expressed appreciation to Nupeko TV Lafiagi for its intervention and continued efforts to highlight issues affecting the community, urging relevant authorities to consider the concerns raised and take necessary action.
