Minister Dele Alake has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to remove the petrol subsidy, describing it as a bold step taken in the interest of Nigeria’s long-term economic stability.

According to Alake, the decision was not primarily driven by political considerations but by the need to address economic challenges and reduce the financial burden of maintaining the subsidy regime.

The minister acknowledged that the policy created immediate hardships for Nigerians, particularly through higher fuel prices and increased living costs.

However, he maintained that the government considered the long-term consequences and believed reform was necessary to place the economy on a more sustainable path.

Alake said the administration remains focused on implementing policies aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s economy despite the difficulties associated with the reforms.
