ILLEC Begins Construction of Nupe Language School, Appeals for More Support

The Initial Language Legacy and Culture, (ILLEC) has commenced construction work on its proposed Nupe Language School, with organisers calling for continued financial support from individuals and organisations to complete the project.

Adamu Idris Manarakis, popularly known as Tashiru Nupe, made the appeal in a statement on Sunday, September 6, 2026, while expressing appreciation to individuals who have contributed to the project.

He listed Dr. (Mrs.) Aishatu Ndayako, SMA Gorozon Nupe and Prof. Ahmed Doko, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, among those who had supported the initiative.

Manarakis described the project as a collective effort aimed at promoting and preserving the Nupe language, urging members of the community to contribute according to their means.

He said the project demonstrated the impact that collective contributions could have, noting that even small donations could make a significant difference when combined with contributions from others.

“Please give whatever you can. No amount is too small. The journey continues,” he said.

 

He further appealed for additional support to enable the organisers to realise their vision of establishing a dedicated Nupe Language School, describing the initiative as a historic project.

“It's historic, help please,” he added.
