Kwara Newlywed Couple Abducted Along Eruku Road
A newlywed couple, identified as Funmilayo Bamidele and her husband, Reverend Abiodun David, have been abducted alongside four other persons along the Eruku-Iyemero Road, a route linking Kwara and Kogi states.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday evening, September 26, 2026, as the couple and the other passengers were returning from their engagement ceremony in Eruku, Kwara State. Reports said the group was travelling in a vehicle that was initially expected to use the Isanlu Road.
However, the driver reportedly took an alternative route to drop off the best man and some other members of the group at Iyamoye in Kogi State. The vehicle was subsequently intercepted by armed men along the Iyemero-Eruku route, leading to the abduction of the occupants.
The identities and whereabouts of the four other abducted persons had not been disclosed as of Sunday. The vehicle conveying the victims was later found parked at an abandoned police station in Ayetoro, Ekiti State, according to the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo.
Ojo confirmed the incident and said security agencies had launched a joint rescue operation. He disclosed that soldiers were already combing the surrounding bush while police operatives from Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti states were working together to locate the victims and apprehend those responsible.
