Lata Nna Abducted Resident Regains Freedom After Additional N5.5m Ransom Payment

Mohammed Abubakar Ndakpada, a resident of Lata Nna community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State, has regained his freedom after spending 40 days in captivity.

Ndakpada was reportedly released after his family paid an additional N5.5 million ransom to the abductors, following an earlier payment of N12 million.

NupekoTV had earlier reported that Ndakpada was abducted on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at about 11:00 a.m. shortly after arriving at his farm in Lata Nna.

Following the abduction, the kidnappers reportedly contacted one of his brothers using the victim’s phone and initially demanded N100 million as ransom. The demand was later reduced to N50 million after negotiations with the family.

The development triggered concerns within the community, particularly after the abductors allegedly threatened to kill the victim if their ransom demand was not met by 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 14.

Residents subsequently appealed to the Kwara State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure his safe release.

The latest development has brought relief to the victim’s family and members of the Lata Nna community, although the reported ransom payments have again highlighted the growing security challenges confronting communities in the area.

Residents are also calling for sustained security operations and increased security presence in Lata Nna and neighbouring communities to prevent further abductions and attacks.
