Mother Arrested Over Alleged Burning of Seven-Year-Old Daughter With Hot Knife

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old woman, identified as Ogechi Ofoma, over the alleged abuse and infliction of injuries on her seven-year-old daughter in Ibollo community, Awada-Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

The woman was reportedly arrested following allegations that she subjected the child to physical abuse after accusing her of stealing meat.

According to reports, the mother allegedly used a heated knife to inflict burn injuries on the girl as punishment for the alleged theft.

The incident has raised concerns over child abuse and the use of excessive physical punishment against minors. Details surrounding the circumstances of the alleged assault are expected to form part of the police investigation.

The Anambra State Police Command is expected to investigate the allegations and take appropriate action in accordance with the law. The condition of the child was not immediately clear from the available report.

Authorities have repeatedly urged parents and guardians to avoid violence when disciplining children and to seek lawful and appropriate means of addressing behavioural issues.
