Woman Arrested For Allegedly Killing Co-Wife With Pestle
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old woman, Hauwa’u Haruna, over the alleged killing of her co-wife, 43-year-old Jamila Adamu, during a domestic confrontation in Bauchi metropolis.
The incident reportedly occurred at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi. According to the police, the two women were married to the same man and lived in the same household.
The command said its C-Division received information about the incident at about 4:05 p.m. and promptly deployed detectives to the scene. Preliminary investigations indicated that Haruna allegedly struck Adamu on the forehead with a pestle during the confrontation.
The victim was rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, for medical attention but was pronounced dead by a doctor. Her remains were subsequently deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy, while the suspect was arrested at the scene and the alleged weapon recovered as an exhibit.
The police said preliminary findings suggested that the suspect may have been experiencing hallucinations, but stressed that further investigation would establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordered the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
