VIDEO: Suspected Bandits Abduct Motorists in Ogun State Road, Heighten Security Fears

Tension has gripped residents and road users in parts of Ogun State following the abduction of motorists by suspected bandits along the Ikenne–Odogbolu Road.

The incident reportedly occurred around 5 p.m. on Monday in Ikenne Local Government Area, when armed men allegedly intercepted motorists travelling along the partially deserted road.

The route serves as an alternative for motorists seeking to avoid traffic congestion on the busy Sagamu–Ore–Benin Expressway.

According to a report by LEADERSHIP, two vehicles, a gold-coloured Toyota Sienna and a blue Toyota RAV4, were abandoned at the scene after their occupants were reportedly taken away by the suspected bandits.

The Toyota Sienna, which reportedly had Lagos registration number APP 901 HK, was said to have been found with its engine still running when police operatives and other individuals arrived at the scene.

An eyewitness who witnessed the incident reportedly escaped by abandoning his vehicle and fleeing into nearby bushland after seeing the suspected bandits seize their victims.

Although initial reports indicated that two motorists were abducted, another eyewitness who spoke on Tuesday evening claimed that three people were taken away. The identities of the victims had yet to be officially confirmed at the time of filing this report.

Following the incident, police operatives, local security groups and officers attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad reportedly commenced coordinated efforts to track down the suspected bandits and secure the victims' release.

The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Odogbolu Division was reportedly involved in security consultations with other operatives as efforts intensified to locate the victims and apprehend the suspects.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command's spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, was reportedly contacted for a reaction and promised to respond. However, no official response had been made available at the time the report was published.

The abduction has heightened security concerns among residents and motorists, particularly those who regularly use the Ikenne–Odogbolu Road as an alternative to the busy expressway.
