State High Court Grants Kwara Journalist, AAC Governorship Candidate ₦200,000 Bail Each in Sadiq Buhari Case
A Kwara State High Court has rejected an attempt by the Kwara State Government to secure the remand of investigative journalist and publisher of Afrika Eyes, Buhari Olanrewaju Ahmed, popularly known as Crown, and African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate, Saidu Musa Tsaragi.
The court instead granted the two defendants bail in the sum of ₦200,000 each, allowing them to remain outside custody as proceedings in the case continue.
The development marks another twist in the legal battle involving the journalist and the AAC governorship candidate, who are facing criminal charges instituted by the Kwara State Government.
The case, filed by Sadiq Buhari, a former Special Adviser to the Kwara State Governor on Social Investment, initially involved three defendants, including activist Comrade Bolakale Saliu, who has since died.
The prosecution had earlier pursued legal steps against the defendants, while their lawyer, Taofiq Olateju, maintained that their fundamental rights must be protected throughout the proceedings.
The latest ruling represents a significant development in the case, particularly amid concerns about the treatment of journalists and political activists facing prosecution over issues connected to public criticism.
The case is expected to continue as the court considers the allegations against the defendants.
