Kwara Church Kidnap: Gunmen Demand ₦1 Billion for Release of 8 ECWA Worshippers

Residents of Ifelodun Local Government Area in Kwara State are gripped by fear following the abduction of eight members of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) during a church service in Omugo community.

The attackers reportedly contacted church and community leaders, demanding a ransom of ₦1 billion for the victims’ release. The pastor, Omole Sunday Timothy, disclosed that all attempts to negotiate a lower amount have failed.

According to him, the kidnappers rejected an offer of ₦1 million and warned against proposing any amount below their demand, insisting on the full sum. Communication was later cut off after the abductors dismissed further discussions.

The cleric also revealed that he briefly spoke with his wife, who is among those kidnapped, along with other victims. They reportedly complained of severe thirst, while one elderly captive sustained injuries after being struck on the head.

The incident has heightened tension across the Oro-Ago axis, with residents calling on authorities to urgently intervene and ensure the safe return of the abducted worshippers.
