Suspected terrorists launched a violent assault on Oro-Ago community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State on Wednesday evening, killing two people and shooting the town’s chief security officer, popularly known as Olu-Òde (identified as Odeyemi).
The attack, described by residents as a brazen attempt to invade the local police station, has triggered widespread outrage and fear across the area. Residents accused the attackers of trying to take over security infrastructure in the community, which serves as the hometown of Kwara State Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi.
Many locals have directed sharp criticism at the deputy governor, urging him to intervene personally rather than remain in the state capital. “We call on the deputy governor not to sleep. Your fatherland and hometown have been destroyed, and you are sitting in the state capital. Help us,” one resident pleaded in a widely circulated voice note.
In a more desperate appeal, some community members called on Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as "Sunday Igboho", to come to their rescue, citing what they described as abandonment by government authorities. “Help us call on Sunday Igboho to come and rescue us,” another resident said.
The assault has led to significant displacement, with several neighbouring communities reportedly deserted amid fears of further attacks. Affected or abandoned settlements include Ahun, Oke-Oyan, Ago-Olomo, Ajegunle, Omugo (also referred to as Omuga), and Oke-Daba.
The incident comes shortly after intelligence warnings of planned coordinated terrorist attacks on three local government areas in Kwara South Senatorial District — Ifelodun, Irepodun, and Isin. On March 21–22, 2026, Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair (also referred to as Oyin-Zubair), Coordinator of the Joint Security Watch, issued an alert about potential strikes on March 23 and March 28, urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies. The warning was copied to the Kwara State Police Command and chairmen of the affected LGAs.
As of the time of this report, neither the Kwara State Government nor the deputy governor’s office has issued an official statement on the Wednesday attack. Efforts to obtain comments from the Kwara State Police Command and other security agencies were unsuccessful.
The Oro-Ago area has witnessed repeated security breaches in recent weeks, including earlier bandit activities and a church invasion that led to abductions (with some victims later rescued). The latest assault has heightened tensions in Kwara South and raised questions about the effectiveness of security measures in rural communities despite prior alerts.
This remains a developing situation. Further updates are expected as authorities respond to the growing insecurity in the region.
