Kwara North Residents Decry Rising Banditry, Demand Urgent Government Action

Residents of Kwara North, spanning Baruten, Edu, Moro, Kaiama, and Patigi Local Government Areas, have expressed deep concern over the escalating wave of banditry and kidnapping that has gripped the region for nearly a year.

In an open letter signed by Comrade Saidu Musa Tsaragi, TIB Coordinator in Kwara State, the people lamented what they described as prolonged neglect and failure by the state government to address the worsening security situation.

According to the statement, about 176 families from Kaiama Local Government Area are reportedly still in captivity, while cases of killings and abductions continue to occur across the region. The development has left many communities living in fear, with several families forced to pay ransoms for the release of their loved ones.

The group questioned the continued silence and response of the authorities, asking what offense the people of Kwara North have committed to warrant such suffering and insecurity.

Comrade Musa Tsaragi, speaking on behalf of concerned residents, called for urgent and decisive action from the Kwara State Government to restore peace and security in the affected areas. He stressed that the people feel increasingly abandoned and marginalized within the state.

The statement further emphasized that residents have endured enough loss and hardship, warning that continued inaction may compel citizens to intensify their calls for accountability through lawful means.

The appeal adds to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Kwara North, as communities continue to seek protection and government intervention.
