TRAGEDY IN GBUGBU: Farmer Killed in Daytime Attack; Resident Debunk Mass Kidnapping Rumors

Tension gripped Gbugbu community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State earlier today after suspected bandits attacked farmers, leaving one person dead.

According to a resident who spoke with NUPEKOTV, the incident occurred on a farm near Gbugbu Secondary School, not far from a military checkpoint. The victims, said to be two in number, were working on the farm when gunshots suddenly rang out.

The source revealed that the first shot hit one of the farmers in the hand. As the attackers advanced and noticed he was still alive, they reportedly fired another shot, which proved fatal. His colleague, however, managed to escape the scene.

The sound of gunfire caused widespread panic across the community, with residents scrambling for safety. In a related development, a vehicle traveling from Ilorin had just arrived in the area when the passengers heard the gunshots. Fearing for their safety, they reportedly fled the vehicle and took cover in nearby bushes.

The same source dismissed circulating rumors that passengers in the vehicle were abducted, clarifying that no such incident occurred.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from security authorities regarding the attack. Residents have expressed concern over the proximity of the incident to a military checkpoint, calling for improved security measures to safeguard lives and property in the area.
