Kwara Residents Hold Solidarity Protest in Ilorin Over Oyo Abducted Students
Residents of Kwara State took to the streets in Ilorin today in a powerful show of solidarity with the people of Oyo State, demanding the immediate and safe release of the students, pupils, and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area.
The protest in Ilorin is part of a larger wave of demonstrations happening today in Ibadan (Oyo State) and Abeokuta (Ogun State) as Nigerians express deep frustration over the government’s handling of the abduction and the worsening security situation.
Background
The abduction took place around May 15, 2026, when armed men attacked schools and communities in the Esiele/Yawota area of Oriire LGA, Oyo State. Many victims remain in captivity weeks later.
The National Union of Teachers (NUT) in Oyo State has declared an indefinite strike, while students and civil society groups continue to mount pressure.
Protesters are calling on both the Oyo State and Federal Governments to act decisively to rescue the victims and restore security in the region.
