INVESTIGATION: Current Condition of Lata NNA Junior Secondary School Raises Concern
What has happened to Lata NNA Junior Secondary School, a school established nearly two decades ago to provide access to education for children in Lata and surrounding communities?
Established in 2006 under the administration of former Kwara State Governor Bukola Saraki, the school recorded its pioneer graduating class in the 2012/2013 academic session. It reportedly served not only students from Lata but also children from neighbouring communities, including Wodata, Essanti, Kokodo and Kanworo.
Ishiaku Alhaji Aliyu, a youth from the Lata community who is familiar with the situation at the school, provided information to NupekoTV about the history and current condition of the facility.
According to him, the original school building was constructed by an NYSC member identified as Patrick, with significant support from members of the local community.
Ishiaku said the community has continued to play a major role in maintaining and renovating the facility over the years. However, the current state of the school has reportedly become increasingly difficult for the community to address without external assistance.
This raises a key question: How did a school established to serve generations of students reach its present condition? The reported deterioration has also raised concerns about whether the facility can continue to adequately serve the educational needs of children in the surrounding communities.
The situation raises several questions that deserve answers: Which government agency is currently responsible for the school? When was the last major government intervention carried out? Has any rehabilitation project been approved or budgeted for the school? And what plans, if any, are in place to restore the facility?
As NupekoTV continues to examine the situation, the condition of Lata NNA Junior Secondary School highlights broader concerns about public education infrastructure in rural communities.
A school built to serve generation of children now needs urgent attention — but who will take responsibility for bringing Lata NNA Junior Secondary School back to life?
