Tension has reportedly heightened in Wawa community, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, following the death of Ismail Ishaq Magaji, a final-year student of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, who was allegedly shot during a confrontation between protesting youths and security personnel.

The incident was reportedly linked to a land dispute involving a prominent female politician in the area. According to local accounts, the disagreement escalated into a protest by youths in the community, prompting the deployment of security personnel to restore order and prevent the situation from deteriorating further.
During the confrontation, Magaji reportedly sustained a gunshot injury. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment but later died from the injuries sustained during the incident. His death has since generated anger and concern among members of the community, particularly over the circumstances surrounding the confrontation.

Following news of his death, tensions reportedly escalated as angry youths allegedly attacked and set fire to the residence of the politician said to be connected to the land dispute. Properties at the disputed site were also reportedly damaged during the unrest.
The incident has raised concerns over the safety of residents and the possibility of further violence in the community. Authorities are said to have moved to strengthen security in Wawa as efforts continue to restore calm and prevent further escalation.

The Chairman of Borgu Local Government Area, Hon. Muhammad Nasir Abdullahi, popularly known as Lambus, has reportedly declared an emergency in Wawa following the unrest. Security personnel have also been deployed to the community to maintain peace, protect lives and property, and contain any further breakdown of law and order.
