Family Declares Janaza for Kidnapped Corps Member After Ransom Payment and Silence from Abductors
The family of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, identified as Abba, who was abducted some weeks ago, has announced plans to hold his Janaza (Islamic funeral prayer) following weeks of uncertainty over his fate.
According to the family, a total of ₦10 million was raised and paid to the kidnappers as ransom in an effort to secure his release. However, after receiving the money, the abductors reportedly demanded three brand-new motorcycles before releasing him.
Since making the additional demand, the kidnappers have allegedly cut off all communication with the family, leaving them without any information about Abba’s condition or whereabouts.
Faced with the prolonged silence, the family has decided to hold his Janaza prayer on Friday, March 6, in accordance with Islamic traditions.
Family members and sympathisers have continued to express hope and prayers for the missing corps member.
“If Abba is still alive, wherever he may be, may Allah grant him strength and a swift release. If he has passed on, may Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus,” the family said in a
statement.
The incident highlights the growing concerns over kidnapping and insecurity affecting communities and travellers in parts of Nigeria.
