In a historic first-of-its-kind gathering since the passing of Olusola Saraki, no fewer than 165 elderly women representatives from across Ilorin South Local Government Area converged on Monday for a special assembly hosted by a PDP chieftain, Alhaji Abdulateef Olajide Olanrewaju Yusuf, popularly known as Sheu Agba 001.

The meeting, held at his residence in Ile-Loke 2, Agah, brought together elderly women drawn from the eleven wards of Ilorin South LGA, with each ward represented by 11 delegates under the leadership of their respective women leaders and grassroots mobilizers.

The well-coordinated event witnessed the orderly arrival of participants, who were received by members of the host’s political structure, reflecting a strong sense of unity and organization within the movement.

During the engagement, the elderly women paid glowing tribute to the late Saraki, recalling his longstanding compassion and consistent support for elderly citizens (awon arugbo) during his lifetime. They noted that due to their age, they could no longer visit the residence of Bukola Saraki as they used to, but reaffirmed their continued loyalty and offered prayers for his political success ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a unified position, the women appealed to the former Senate President to consider producing the next governorship candidate from Ilorin South LGA, stressing that the zone has yet to occupy the state’s top seat. They described such a move as a step toward equity, fairness, and inclusiveness within the Peoples Democratic Party.

The group also pledged unwavering support for the PDP and reaffirmed their loyalty to Sheu Agba 001, promising to intensify grassroots mobilization across communities to ensure the party’s victory in future elections.

They further expressed appreciation to Mallam Omar Bolaji Gambari (OBG), a PDP gubernatorial aspirant from Ilorin South, for his generous support through the provision of food and financial assistance facilitated by the host. According to them, the gesture was a reflection of the enduring legacy of the late Saraki and a demonstration of solidarity with ongoing political efforts in the state. They offered prayers for Gambari’s success and divine guidance in his political ambition.

In his remarks, Sheu Agba 001 reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening grassroots participation and consolidating party structures not only in Ilorin South but across Kwara State. He urged the women to rally support for aspirants from the zone, noting that both Prof. Ali Ahmad and Mallam Omar Bolaji Gambari are currently in the governorship race.

He emphasized that his approach to politics continues to draw inspiration from the legacy of the late Olusola Saraki, particularly in recognizing the importance of elderly women in community cohesion and political mobilization.

The meeting also served as a platform for dialogue on the role of elderly women in voter education, community engagement, and sustaining party loyalty at the grassroots level.

Participants commended the initiative as a revival of the late Saraki’s tradition and pledged continued collaboration toward strengthening the PDP’s base across the state.

The event ended on a positive note, with Sheu Agba 001 promising to sustain the engagement through monthly gatherings aimed at reinforcing unity and deepening political participation ahead of the 2027 elections.
