Lata Nna Community Sends Urgent SOS to Tinubu Over Escalating Bandit Attacks in Kwara
Residents of Lata Nna community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State have raised alarm over worsening insecurity, sending a Save Our Soul (SOS) letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging immediate intervention to halt persistent banditry, kidnappings, and violent attacks.
The appeal, signed by the Secretary of the Lata-Nna Youth Association, Tauheed Ahmed Desco, described a community under siege, where daily life has been severely disrupted by fear and violence.
“Your Excellency, we can no longer go to our farms, we can no longer go to the market, and we can no longer sleep with our eyes closed. Our only road is a death trap. Our community is bleeding,” the letter stated.
The community called for urgent deployment of security personnel to restore order, secure the only access road linking the area to essential services, and carry out sustained operations to dislodge bandits from nearby forests.
They also demanded justice and support for victims’ families, particularly referencing the killing of Alhassan Ndaba and two other residents during a deadly blockade attack on June 26, 2026.
The residents highlighted a series of coordinated and brazen attacks that have intensified over the past year:
August 2025: A violent clash between local hunters and bandits resulted in the death of about 65 hunters, with only 40 bodies recovered.
April 15, 2026: A farmer, Alhassan Ndaba, was murdered on his way to his farm.
June 13, 2026: Armed bandits invaded the community in broad daylight, moving freely and causing panic.
June 26, 2026: Attackers blocked the only road into Lata Nna, killing two residents and cutting off access to healthcare and markets.
June 27, 2026: Villagers were attacked and robbed while gathering leaves.
July 10, 2026: Homes and shops were looted, with four motorcycles worth about ₦1.6 million stolen.
July 15, 2026: A POS operator was robbed of cash after withdrawing money from a bank.
The community warned that the sustained attacks could lead to the total collapse of the area if urgent measures are not taken.
“Mr. President, we voted for hope and security. Please do not let Lata Nna be wiped off the map. Please hear our cry and come to our rescue,” the residents appealed.
They stressed that for over two years, the community has endured kidnappings, extortion, farm invasions, and armed robberies, with recent incidents marking a dangerous escalation in both frequency and brutality.
The development underscores growing security concerns across parts of Kwara North, as affected communities continue to demand swift and decisive government intervention.
