DSS Warns Osun Muslim, Christian Leaders of Terrorists’ Plans to Attack Worship Centres

The Department of State Services (DSS) has warned Muslim and Christian leaders in Osun State of alleged plans by terrorists to attack churches, mosques, markets and other public gathering centres, NupekoTV reports, citing Punch and Politics Nigeria.

The warning was issued during separate meetings between DSS officials and leaders of the Muslim and Christian communities in Osogbo on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

According to the reports, intelligence presented to the religious leaders indicated that terrorists were planning to move towards the South-West, with Osun identified as a potential target. The alleged plot was said to be aimed at creating fear and insecurity and possibly discouraging citizens from participating in the 2027 general elections.

The security agency reportedly advised religious leaders to strengthen security around worship centres and remain vigilant over unfamiliar persons, vehicles and suspicious activities.

Muslim leaders were reportedly advised not to allow vehicles to park close to congregations during Jumat prayers or other gatherings, while mosques were encouraged to have night guards and avoid allowing strangers to sleep inside their premises.

Christian leaders were similarly advised to question unfamiliar visitors, prevent strange vehicles from parking near churches and exercise caution over night programmes.

The Osun State Muslim Community President, Mustapha Olawuyi, confirmed the DSS meeting and described the security alert as genuine, while the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Osun State, Pastor John Adeleke, also confirmed that Christian leaders received the warning.

The reports said the warning also covered other crowded locations, including schools, clubs and viewing centres, which were identified as places that could be vulnerable because of large gatherings.
