EXCLUSIVE: Fear, Gunfire and Abandonment — Lata Woro Deserted as Residents Flee Repeated Bandit Attacks in Kwara.

Residents of Lata Woro in Edu Local Government Area have cried out over what they described as relentless attacks by armed bandits, forcing villagers to abandon their homes and farmlands in fear for their lives.

Findings by NUPEKOTV revealed that the once-busy farming settlement has now become largely deserted, with residents fleeing to neighboring communities following repeated attacks and threats from suspected bandits.

According to villagers who spoke with NUPEKOTV, the attacks have persisted over time, creating an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty across the community.
The residents alleged that bandits have also been placing threatening phone calls to community members, warning them against returning to the village.

“They told us they will continue attacking us as long as we remain in the village,” one resident lamented.
Community members disclosed that the most recent attack occurred on the night of the 9th of this month at about 7:00pm to 8:00pm, when gunmen reportedly invaded the village and opened fire on residents.

During the attack, one person was reportedly killed, while another resident identified as Mohammed Idris sustained gunshot injuries.

The injured victim was said to have survived the attack and is currently receiving treatment.
Residents said the continuous violence has crippled economic and farming activities in the area, as many villagers can no longer access their farmlands or return to their homes due to fear of further attacks.

The affected residents are now appealing to the Kwara State Government and security agencies to urgently intervene and restore security in the community.

They specifically called for the deployment of military personnel and other security operatives to the area, insisting that only a visible security presence can give them confidence to return to their homes and continue their farming activities.

“We want our village back. We want to return to our farms and continue our normal lives, but we cannot go back unless security is guaranteed,” another displaced resident told NUPEKOTV.

The development adds to growing concerns over insecurity affecting parts of Kwara North, particularly rural communities where residents continue to face threats from armed groups.

NUPEKOTV reports that many displaced residents from Lata Woro are currently taking refuge in safer neighboring communities while awaiting government intervention and improved security measures.
