Op-Ed: Qasim Sanchitagi Write an Open Letter to Fathers in Kwara North

Dear Fathers,

Can we now protest?

Your friend did not find any of your sons worthy enough to succeed him, even after you ensured that no one from your household spoke against the killings of their brothers and sisters. You scolded your own children in the harshest manner simply to please your friend.

You refused to listen to your true sons and daughters when they cried out in pain, yet you listened to distant sons who have become high-profile crooks. For the first time, these crooks brought you together to discuss our house and the need for fresh air within it. But for decades, you ignored the leaking roof, the broken doors, the overgrown roads, and now, the blood stains on the corridors.

Dear fathers, we want you to keep gathering more often. Gather to discuss our Yikpata house, which is gradually becoming a home for strangers. Gather to discuss our schools, where our younger ones are learning only how to become “Data Boys.” Gather to discuss our elder brothers and sisters who have spent their lives receiving grinding machine empowerment. Gather to discuss our collective well-being.

Fathers, our crooked brothers owe you an apology for making you sit under the scorching sun. They never truly believed in our house. They never contributed a single brick to strengthen our fence. They stole our food. They stole our fertilisers. They stole our water pots. And now, they seek to steal our future too.

So, dear fathers, can we now protest?
