ASUU Threatens Strike Over Unpaid Salaries, Unimplemented Agreement

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to embark on industrial action over the alleged non-payment of salaries and the Federal Government’s failure to implement agreements reached with the union.

The union expressed concern over what it described as outstanding issues affecting university lecturers, warning that continued delays in resolving the matters could lead to another disruption of academic activities across public universities.

ASUU said it expects the government to honour its commitments and address the issues surrounding lecturers’ salaries and other provisions contained in previous agreements.

The development has raised concerns among students and university stakeholders, who fear that a fresh strike could further disrupt the academic calendar if the dispute is not resolved.

The union is expected to continue engaging with the government over the outstanding demands, with stakeholders calling for a resolution that would prevent another prolonged closure of universities.

ASUU has, over the years, embarked on industrial actions to press for improved funding of public universities, better welfare for academic staff and implementation of agreements reached with the government.
